Terms & Conditions

The purpose of the first post on my website is to be transparent about my intentions writing here. You may not think that writing words in your corner of the internet requires justification. I do.

I’ve been hesitant to write publicly. Or do anything publicly, really.

I’ve been perfectly fine with writing code and publishing it in the most public places in the world.

However, when it comes to attaching my name to anything public, I get spooked.

I think this is probably because I’ve seen no benefit to doing so. I only see downside from attaching myself to an idea, a company, or a philosophy when I find myself changing my beliefs every few months.

So why have I decided to trap myself in this suffocating embodiment? Only because I want some sort of relationship with you.

I’m writing this because I’ve been convinced of the instrumental value of a personal brand. What a disgusting pair of words.

I’ve long been convinced of the instrumental value of money. Personal brand is different from money. Money is value that stays with you across space and time as your beliefs change. It allows you to coordinate with people that have different beliefs. My dollars will be accepted by OnlyFans models just as they will be accepted by priests.

I’m writing this in hopes that you (or the reader after you) perceive me more positively after reading some of the words here: personal brand. The OnlyFans model certainly won’t have a higher opinion of me after I give her my dollars, but she may after reading something here (doubt it).

What do I want to get out of the relationship? Positive perception.

What do I put into the relationship? I invest time into writing words and dragging a folder into Cloudflare.

What do you want to get out of the relationship? I don’t know you.

What do you put into the relationship? You read the words you want and break up with me the word it gets too boring.

It’s unsettling to put it into these terms, so most don’t. I prefer to get this off my chest, like the terms and conditions. If I wanted nothing out of this for myself, I would keep it private or post it anonymously in a Bitcoin transaction. Same with any other personal website, no?

Most users don’t care about the terms and conditions though. They’re boring and, if you actually read them, pretty unsettling.

If you’re on your last minutes of battery, or using your hotspot, or if reading these words is somehow an actual investment, this is the warranty I can offer you. My writing here will represent how I truly felt at a time and any deception will be labeled as such. Don’t hold me to anything more. I adopted this from a Norm Macdonald quote:

Well, I don’t know. It’s hard to describe things. That’s what I learned when I tried to write a book. … I decided to skip past facts and go for truth.

Personal brand for what? I hope to write about it in a future post.

If I don’t write anything more, if this is the only post on a lonely website, then I still consider this a smashing success. This was truth, not facts.
